NIce Hair
I realized when I loaded this picture that you can't really see it very well, but when I gave Nate is last bath I walked in and found him like this. It totally reminded me of the bad 80's rock band hair. Maybe I'm just a little too sleep deprived...and Robert and I saw some old 80's rock band music videos recently.

We must be doing something right
For the last few days Nate's had a really high temperature and he's been less than himself. The nights are especially tough because he wakes up really hot and uncomfortable. I wish there was more for you to do other than give fever reducers and push liquids. It just doesn't work fast enough. Anyway, last night Nate woke up screaming for his dad at about 4:25. I didn't even hear the screaming until Robert opened our door and started down the hall for Nate's room. He sounded really upset and didn't stop as soon as Robert got to his room so I got up hoping that I could help. When I got to the door I looked in and saw Robert kneeling next to Nate's bed and Nate had just started to say a prayer. It's so sweet to hear their little voices praying the their Father in Heaven. I loved seeing the two of them praying together. After Nate said "Amen", Robert and I walked back to our room together and I asked him what happened. Robert just said, "Nate said he got scared and then asked me if he could say a prayer." I was so touched that that was the first thing that Nate needed for himself in his time of distress.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Just wanted to wish everyone a great V-Day with the ones they love! We made cookies here and Nate got to lick the beaters. He's was pretty happy about that.
Nate's getting really good at helping me bake and cook. He loves to turn on the KitchenAid and watch it go fast. He gave us a flour shower because he isn't very patient.
Grandma and Grandpa Ross sent Nate a Valentine's Day gift. He was really excited. He thought he wanted to look surprised in the picture so he wouldn't close his mouth.
We love this gift because it's two of the greatest things for kids: Dr. Seuss and books! Woohoo! A new book for us to read together.
Thanks, Beema and Peepa!
Sugar and Spice
Anyone who's known me for very long knows that I love my son and boys in general. I seem to relate to boys better than girls and I feel like it's always been that way. So, I have always thought that all boys would be perfect for me. Nate has been so much fun so I've been totally blown away with my niece, Maggie. She's made me rethink the all boys idea I had. She's so much fun and so mellow. She's always so happy and only cries when she needs something. I have to admit that she's been much lower maintenance than Nate was at her age. Nate was so much more destructive and loud. Maggie is very talkative and interactive but she's not leaving trials of destruction behind her. It's nice to have her around to play with Nate, too and they love each other. They always go into Nate's room and shut the door and talk and play. It's their private time to talk about me. :) Anyway, I'm thinking now that girls are just as cool as boys and it wouldn't be so bad to have a girl in our family. I always worry about the drama of adolescence and puberty with girls but I'm thinking I could survive that as long as I could dress her up as cute as Maggie. Seriously, girls have such cute clothes. Nate is fun to dress up, too, but girls have so much more variety. Check out all these cute little outfits that Maggie's been wearing. I've never seen her wear the same thing twice and she just melts my heart with her cuteness.
I've never seen or heard of Baby Legs until I started watching Maggie. They are these sweater thick leg warmers. Maggie has something like 4 pairs and they are a crack up. She has the chubbiest legs I've ever seen so they don't come all the way up because they won't go further than mid-thigh. Aren't they sweet?
Maggie has so many cute little dresses but I love this skirt because she gets to wear her sparkly silver shoes with them. My sister said she had red ones, too but she's grown out of them. I want some shoes like that!
Is there anything cuter than overalls on little kids? Nope, there's not unless they are paired with ruffle buns tights.

This outfit is so cute with her little leggings but I posted this pic because of the gummy lizard in her mouth. She always crawls or walks with the head in her mouth. So funny, yet very interesting. When she's at her house her dad says she has an army guy she does the same thing to. Maybe she's pretending she's Godzilla or something...

Nate loves Mags. I couldn't hope for them to get along better. This is Maggie in her Boise State Bronco outfit. Her socks have the Bronco emblem on them. Check out the silver Reeboks. I didn't even know that you could buy silver baby Reeboks. You can kinda see her legs in this picture. She still doesn't have wrists, ankles or knees and she turns one in 4 days! Chubby kids are the cutest! Anyway, I know that Maggie isn't mine but I have to share her because she's so cute! I am actually a little jealous of you all who have adorable girls. They have such sweet spirits and they are so special.

Early Valentine's
Robert and I always jump the gun and celebrate V-Day early because it's tough to find baby-sitters and the crowds sometimes make it hard to enjoy the night and take your time with each other. We love to go new places for dinner and Robert found this great little place called Bar Gernika in the Basque district in Downtown Boise. Robert served his mission in Spain so it was really exciting for him to find a place that had authentic Spanish food on the menu. Spanish food is really good (although sometimes it can be bland, they don't use salt and pepper like we do) so we were both really anticipating a great meal. It really is just a bar with a few tables in the back. The place really reminded us of some of the places we visited in Chicago. Really small, cramped and totally busy which made for a really fun atmosphere.
We decided to get a tortilla de patata with chorizo and some basque cheese as an appetizer. Robert makes tortillas for us at home often and he really is kinda picky about how they look and taste. When it was served Robert's face totally lit up and he said, "This is a real tortilla!" It was delicious and it came with really good crusty bread. The menu itself wasn't very big but everything sounded delicious and Robert had a hard time choosing. For our entrees, Robert ordered the chicken and sausage paella and I got a lamb sandwich. You have a few choices for sides, but you have to get the croquetas. They are these balls made with chicken and butter and flour that form a dough. They coat them with bread crumbs and then fry them. I didn't order them cause they sounded iffy to me (I don't love fried food) but I regretted it once Robert shared one with me. They were fun and different from the ordinary french fries. The food was great and Robert is still raving about the paella. I think I'll get that next time we visit. By the time we'd left we'd had an appetizer and two entrees for only $27 including tip.
We are telling all our friends and family about Bar Gernika because we really liked our experience there. It was small so it felt intimate, the food was great, the prices were fabulous (the most expensive thing on the menu was $9.50) and we knew it was going to be fun based on how crazy the place got. It was busy when we got there at 6:15, but by 7:30 when we left, there were lines of people waiting for the next open table. That's when you know the place is good!
After dinner we went and caught the movie Taken. It was really fast paced. It made me sad though because the story is based on trafficking women. Yuck! I hate knowing that kind of thing really exists. It was a great movie for Robert though because there was fighting, guns and major explosions, not to mention a few parts that just made you jump. Totally a guy movie. I was hoping to go to He's Just Not That Into You, but Robert couldn't quite convince himself it would be okay once he saw all the women and tweens in the theatre lobby and heard all the conversations about relationships. I started to laugh when I saw his reaction and knew that I would be going to see that movie with my mom and sister or some girlfriends. Can't blame a girl for being hopeful.
After the movie we stopped at Outback and just ordered dessert. They have this thing call the Chocolate Tower (I think). It's this ginormous piece of rich chocolate cake served with raspberry sauce and ice-cream. Um, YUM! So good! After that we had to face reality and go pick up Nate from my sister who graciously babysat. It was a great night and I wish we got to do that sort of thing more often. The only thing about the night that I would change is finding Nate wet in his pj's when I woke him up to go home. My favorite. Just when they've been potty trained for a while they slip one in on ya! Oh well, being a mom is great!
I hope everyone has a terrific Valentine's Day!
