This week we have been in desperate need of haircuts. It started with Nate. I hate it when his hair is long enough to cover the tops of his ears. I don't know why but it bugs me. Anyway, Robert is in charge of Nate's haircuts. I'm minding my business doing my work when I hear the two of them snickering and giggling in the bathroom. Of course I go look to find Nate stripped down to nothing covered in hair sporting his new look. It's a
Mohawk. I gave Robert a look that said, "Why does my child look like poor white trash?" Robert, in reply, begs me to keep it. "Just until Sunday, please." I
acquiesce. For one reason or another our ward has been really outspoken about the Ross hair this year. It might have to do with the fact that the majority of our ward is elderly. Anyway, every week Robert gets comments on his long hair and offers to cut it. I always get comments, too, so I think Robert was just trying to stir the pot. I don't understand why it's an issue for anyone because we are always clean and neat but whatever. Just don't tell on us for being ornery.

So there it is. The Mohawk. It's not even that pronounced. I love to spike it straight up and even Nate is getting into it and asks to do it himself. I took him shopping the next day and got tons of compliments on it. Robert was pretty happy about that. And, just so it is noted, we got tons of compliments from our generation at church and tons of looks and grumbles from the older generation. I guess we got the reaction we were looking for.

On Friday I went to a salon with my sister for a little workshop. They talked to us about ideal haircuts and colors for our faces, waxed our eyebrows and answered all our questions. I never thought I was that bad but apparently I needed a lot of work. I was the first they approached for the eyebrow wax. I have only had it done once, for my wedding, and you'd think I'd said the dirtiest of words when I confessed it. The whole time they were working on them I kept hearing, "These eyebrows aren't for beginners!" I blame my dad. Later I also let it slip that I'd never colored my hair. I've used the kind that washes out after a week, but I'd never been to salon for highlights or color. I'm pretty sure when they all learned that I was quickly labeled the charity case of the night. Don't get me wrong, they were very nice and helpful, but I felt like I should hurry home and hide myself. I'm so sorry I subjected the rest of the world with my ugly mug for so long. Just kidding! I know they were trying to get some business out of me. But seriously, is there really something that wrong with just dealing with what you've been given naturally?
So I caved and made an appointment. I have never been afraid of short hair and I actually love it. Sure, there are days I have wished for pretty waves to frame my face but I love the low
maintenance and edginess short hair provides. I LOVE my new cut and the color is barely noticeable which is what I like. I don't like the streaky look. They darkened the whole of it and added just a few honey colored highlights on the top. I had so much fun that I think I'm converted to it. Next time they said they'd go lighter because the warmer months will have hit. I'm excited to see it done that way.

Of course after I got my hair done (Robert says he really likes it even though I know he prefers it long) it was Robert's turn. He's had his hair long for about 2 years now. He started growing it once we got to Chicago. This picture is pretty close to what it looked like most of the time. It was longer a couple of times.

He felt like it was time for a change. Especially when we realized his hair was now longer than mine. He found a cut he liked and headed to the salon.

He came home looking like this. I love it! I can see all his face, especially his eyes, which were hidden a lot of the time. Doesn't he look fantastic! So cute! Okay, I'll stop gushing but seriously, he looks great.
So there you go. New looks all around at our house. It's been fun. Our only regret is that we can no longer torment our friends at church with our hair. Maybe we'll have to keep Nate's Mohawk just to keep them on their toes! :P

You guys look great! I LOVE Nate's mohawk. It's totally in right now for the little kids around here to have them.
Oh my gosh! I love it! I have to see it in person. Are you going to be at Volleyball on Thursday night??
Thanks, guys! Yeah, Dessa, I'll be there!
I love your hair Erin! I have never had any of those things done to my hair either, I am too cheap. I will when I am old and don't want teh gray, but for now I am happy with my color.
So cute, you all look so good! I really like your hair, I love short hair, but I'm trying to grow it out right now, which is SO hard for me:) I miss you!
you guys did have a hairy week. FYI the last time i did anything thing with my eyebrows was also at my wedding. almost 7 yrs ago.
I love all the haircuts. Nate is the cutest white trash kid sporting a mowhawk around. Erin yours looks awesome, I would love to do something like it. Thanks Bob for cutting your mop!!!! You look like more like a professor now.
HAHA, I LOVED that whole post. Ironic-I was just thinking we here all need haircuts BAD and it'd be fun to do a post. I love them all. I'm also all for short cuts (with occasional longing for long locks).
Maybe one of this days soon I'll finally just pixie mine. I'm just to cheap to keep it up (its super thick and would require a visit every 4 weeks).
Oh and I have to say, I had to pass this post along to Boz because the teasing your ward bit sounds familiar :). In 18 months Boz has only had 1 haircut (and it wasn't a short cut). My hair was shorter than his last summer.
Anyway, LOVE IT. And I really do like all your haircuts too...I'm excited for ours!
Erin, you look gorgeous no matter what haircut you have! It looks really cute on you, and I love your makeup and eyebrows - and I'm sure they were not as bad as you (or they) were making them out to be. I actually just dyed my hair brown the other day and am still getting used to being all dark. It's fun to do something different though :)
Fun! I want to go to one of the things. They wouldn't have any eyebrows to wax for me because I'm afraid I've plucked them all but they definitely need some help. You have such a great face for short hair. I really like it.
I LOVE all of the new hair dos!!!! Great job! You look especially adorable! I too am afraid of short hair, but you look great! Nice work!
Kristie
Gorgeous hair, Erin! You look like a model! And Nate's mohawk looks cute! I can just see his cute smile when it's all spiky!
We're also in need of haircuts...this post may just be the spring board for them! Thanks for posting this!
What a fun post! You all have fabulous hair. :)
Darling cut girl! Short hair is my fav because of the low maintenance. I think I am up for a pixie cut this week. : )
And your little Nate is still cute, love the faux-hok!
You all look great!
Cute hair friend!
