Kite Flying

I LOVE how the weather is slowly starting to change and we're getting glimpses of spring! Woohoo! I also love where my parents live. It's not too far out of town, but it's far enough out that there aren't a ton of power lines, trees and houses which makes kite flying out there ideal. Nate and I were out there one afternoon last week cleaning out the garden to start planting. The wind was perfect and mom had a really nice kite that was made of cloth and really sturdy. It'd never been flown and she'd had it for a few years in the garage. So, after we worked it was time to play.
We got the kite going and Robert called to say he was headed home and I told him about the kite. He said he wanted in on the fun, too and to wait for him. I don't think he's flown a kite in a long time and he was really excited to share this first with Nate.

You gotta love Grandmas because they follow their roles so well. My mom is an awesome grandma and she takes that job very seriously. I love how she likes to teach my son new things and watch him experience things for the first time. My mom introduced Nate to chocolate milk and ever since that's the first thing he asks for when we go out to visit. She also let him pick out his very first donut and it had mini M&M's on it (is anyone surprised but that??). Grandmas are so much more fun than moms. My mom is the typical spoiler and she was so happy to see Nate cling on to the kite (it was so strong I was afraid it would lift him off the ground). I also loved watching my husband take some time to be with his son. I think it's one of the best things in the world to see a father interacting with his children.
They got the kite pretty high and Nate would shake the spool and make the kite dance. A couple of times when he was dancing with his kite he dropped the spool and the wind took the kite. It was so funny to watch Robert chase the kite down the five acres of my parents' land. My mom got a huge kick out of it and I'd be lying if I said I didn't. Both times Nate dropped it Robert couldn't get to it in time and it landed in the neighbor's cow pasture. Mmmm, fun. We had a good time watching our step as we retrieved it.

I remember flying kites as a kid, but that was no where near as fun as flying a kite with Nate and Robert. I think Nate's found a new favorite thing to do out at my parents' house and I am more than happy to oblige.
