Back in June (2013--yes, I know, I am behind), we pulled Nate out of his last week of school to meet Robert's family (Grandma and Grandpa Ross and Dub and Amy) in Florida for an Island of Adventure/Universal Studios trip. It was amazing. The kids absolutely loved the parks, and Nate was tall enough to ride many of the rides (except for The Hulk roller coaster--sorry bud, maybe next time). It was a great trip and we had a great time with Robert's family.
Getting ready for the 15 hour drive. It was not too bad considering we were heading east and we did not have to drive through west Texas. Although Alabama and Mississippi were not much better.
Getting ready for the Despicable Me 3D ride. They also had a dance room where you could dance with minions. Scarlett ended up being scared of them and refused to dance.
Universal Studios was opening a new Transformers ride. Unfortunately, we missed it opening by a few weeks so this was as close as Nate could get to the ride.
They also had a really cool ball factory that seemed like it belonged in a Children's Museum. Our kids loved it, and we ended up spending most of the morning there.
Getting ready to ride The Simpsons ride. Scarlett and cousin Jonathan were too little to ride it so we had to take turns watching them. We really felt bad for Scarlett and Jonathan because they had to suffer through the long lines but never got the reward of actually riding the ride.
And this is what short, 3 year olds due while waiting for the adults to ride the rides. Jonathan was always great entertainment!
Scarlett and Jonathan did find things that they could do together...like holding hands and playing with shark teeth.
Yes, Robert decided he wanted to be cool (or a nerd) so he wore a Batman shirt to match his brother and nephews. Do you like how he got Nate a shirt to fit in as well... ?
As a consolation for not getting to ride The Transformers ride, Nate did get to meet Bumblebee!
Obligatory family picture in from of the Universal Studios sign. Notice Scarlett's excitement at this photo opportunity (and that was the best one of her!).
We did get to ride a lot of the more "kid friendly" rides with Scarlett. This was one of her favorites because they would shoot water at you. Robert was such a trooper because he would ride with them and get wet.
He was not always amused at the outcome, but the kids absolutely loved riding with him. Thanks for taking one for team, babe!
I accompanied the kids on the less "interactive" rides. Robert was a little bitter about this arrangement.
Universal Studios was really fun. But it was only the first day of our trip, and Harry Potter Land--the real reason why Robert's family wanted to make the trip--was the following day! Pictures to come, including the awesome shirts Robert made for his family to wear during the Harry Potter adventure.
